Gesso is the Foundation of Great Art

Never Underestimate the Value of High Quality Gesso

No matter what you create, the foundation will weigh heavily on the final product. Thus, you owe it to yourself as an artist to pay attention to detail. Especially at the beginning!

In the case of a painting, the beginning starts with a blank canvas. Your first step should be to prime that canvas with High Quality Gesso.

Apply your primer with as much care as you give to the other phases of the creative process. That first step (priming the canvas) determines much more about the final quality of any piece than many artists realize.
The foundation determines the results!

Just as you don't need socks to wear shoes; the truth is that neither do you need gesso to paint a masterpiece.

However, isn't it better to wear socks? Your feet would surely thank you, if they could talk.  Likewise, your paintings too would thank you for applying a few coats of High Quality Gesso.

A good canvass primer gives paint a smooth surface to hold onto. It also protects the canvas from breaking down over the years. A painting primed with High Quality Gesso can last for centuries. Isn't that amazing?
